About Me
Although not a Pennsylvania native, I have lived in Pittsburgh, PA since the age of three. I grew up in the North Hills area and graduated from the North Allegheny School District in 2007. I attended Mercyhurst College (now Mercyhurst University) where I began my studies in Music Education. However, during my sophomore year I decided that I did not want to pursue teaching music, and instead turned my focus to performing. I studied opera and classical music, and in 2011 graduated with a Bachelor of the Arts Degree in Music and a minor in Philosophy. I spent a few years working as a retail manager while focusing on what I was meant to do with my life. A year and a half later, I began working at a small private preschool and childcare center, first in the childcare portion of the center, gradually moving into the classroom. I was a substitute at first, before becoming an assistant teacher. I fell in love with teaching young students, and made the decision to pursue my Masters in education, and complete my PA Teachers Certifcation requirements. I chose Drexel University's online program so I could earn my degree while I continued to gain experience in the classroom. In the fall of 2015, I unexpectedly became the Lead Teacher of the Pre-K classroom at W.C.C. The experience not only showed me that education is my calling, but also strengthened my love of teaching Pre-K and elementary-aged students. I will graduate with my Master of Science Degree in Teaching, Learning, and Curriculum (Pre-K through 4th) in June of 2017.
Teaching Philosophy
I believe that it is the role of the educator to create a warm, safe, nurturing classroom environment that instills a love of learning in all students, and provides the opportunity for exploration and discovery through hands-on, high-level engagement with real-world concepts and skills. The classroom teacher holds the immense responsibility for teaching students how to think, learn and question, and must act as a facilitator and partner in that learning process. An excellent teacher is invested in providing the best learning environment and opportunities to all students, across the entire range of gender, culture, family background, race, religion, ability, and temperament. Each student should be valued as a unique individual, as well as an important member of the classroom learning community. The primary task of the classroom teacher is to serve as a mentor and guide to all students in order to give them the best chance to fulfill their potential as learners, but more importantly as productive members of society.

“You can teach a student a lesson for a day; but if you can teach him to learn by creating curiosity,
he will continue the learning process as long as he lives.”
